Welcome to Installment #7 of Kim Diehl’s Mystery Stitch-Along! Read below to find directions for cutting and piecing fabric.

Cutting

From the remainder of the black fat quarter, cut:

  • 2 strips, 2 3⁄4" × 21"; crosscut into 12 squares, 2 3⁄4" × 2 3⁄4". Cut each square in half diagonally once to yield 2 triangles (total of 24).

From the assorted cream scraps, cut:

  • 12 squares, 2 3⁄4" × 2 3⁄4"; cut each square in half diagonally once to yield 2 triangles (combined total of 24)

From each of 6 assorted bitty bricks, cut:

  • 1 strip, 2 3⁄8" × 10 1⁄2"; crosscut into 2 squares, 2 3⁄8" × 2 3⁄8" (combined total of 12). Cut each square in half diagonally once to yield 2 triangles (total of 4; combined total of 24).
  • Organize the triangles by print into 6 Double-Pinwheel patchwork sets.

Instructions

  1. Using Simple Whatnots III, refer to the Windswept Pincushion project and follow “Piecing the Double-Pinwheel Unit” on page 61 to piece a total of six Double-Pinwheel blocks. Note that each block is made using one of the Double-Pinwheel patchwork sets rather than the scrappy style shown in the book.
