What We Love About Working at C&T Publishing

Posted by Deirdre Quirk on Aug 20th 2018

It probably comes as no surprise that the staff of C&T Publishing love their jobs. What quilter or sewist wouldn't love working for a company that publishes nothing but fabric art books? But it turns out that what we love most of all about C&T is the people! Read on to hear the staff of C&T Publishing talk about their favorite parts of working here.

Gailen (Creative Director): I'm answering first so I call dibs on this answer . . . the people!!! Okay, I know I can't call dibs, and I suspect you'll hear this one more than once. Every day I get to work with the most amazing people. Often you spend more time with your work family than your real family. Our C&T family is amazingly strong, supportive, fun, and creative. And it extends beyond the people in the office to our growing group of remote employees, our freelancers, and most definitely the authors with whom I get to interact. I also happen to love the work I do and the subjects we cover (I'm a quilter and sewist . . . who wouldn't want to work with quilting and sewing all day!?), but even if I didn't, the people make coming to work an absolute joy.

Angela (IT/IS Specialist): Working with laid-back, creative minds is one of my favorite parts of working here at C&T Publishing. What I love about this place is being able to work so closely with the owners as well as the staff. C&T is a family, not just a place to pick up a paycheck. :-)

Roxane (Acquisitions Editor): What I love best about my job in not a single task but rather that it is different every day. My portion of the project of publishing covers so many different tasks that I can be working with a spreadsheet or a contract one minute and brainstorming new concepts or ways to organize a collection the next. While it is sometimes similar to whack-a-mole, it is at least never boring!

Dawn (Office Manager): How do I love thee C&T, let me count the ways! C&T is a creatively diverse group of people that come from all walks of life. I love how everyone (regardless of their job title) is encouraged to come to the table with ideas, and everyone shares a passion for putting out the BEST products on the market. I get excited every time one of our books or other products comes into the office because I know the blood, sweat, and tears it took to arrive at the front door. My favorite part of my job is, well, all of it, because I get to spend my weekdays around all of these wonderful people!

Kerry (Senior Designer): The people! Definitely the people. Everyone at C&T is amazingly creative, supportive, innovative. I love that I get to be creative every day in my "job" as a designer at C&T.

Alice (Senior Production & Project Editor): Participating in the evolution of a book from a manuscript, rough sketches, and snapshots into a book with polished text, detailed illustrations, professional photos, and a masterly design and layout. And my coworkers are awesome! We all work hard individually, but we also joke, laugh, share recipes, celebrate birthdays, collaborate on ideas, brainstorm solutions, and generally support each other.

Tim (Senior Production Coordinator): The creativity. Not only being part of the creative team, but seeing all of these amazing products and projects come to life on my screen that have been shipped from all over the world.

Amy (Publisher): The people. Coming to work each day with fun-loving, smart, creative and talented people who love what they do makes me glad to be a part of C&T.

April (Senior Designer): It can not be overstated that the people here are amazing. It's more than just being nice to each other. It's the creativity and enthusiasm that each person contributes. It's fun to work with people who inspire you and put as much into it as you do. I love seeing the different creative perspectives of our authors and helping them to make something they can be proud of. And I get to look at pretty stuff all day!

Deirdre (Marketing Coordinator): I love getting to work with our authors. They are such an amazingly talented and creative group, and I love getting to work with them to promote their books and brainstorm new ways to share their ideas.

Debbie (Senior Technical Editor): The math and the measuring and the reading and the figuring. And the incredibly creative and generous team I work with! I really do have my dream job!

Ruthmary (Sales Representative): There are two things that keep me loving my job at C&T. First, the people: those with whom I work at the company (so many dear friends now); the authors for sure; the many wonderful shop owners; buyers that I link up with via phone and email. Second, the subject at the heart of C&T business: quilting.

Amber (Sales and Administrative Assistant): For me, it is the willingness of the company and of my coworkers to listen to new ideas and thoughts from everyone. All have a voice at C&T.

Jennifer (Production Editor): I have to echo everyone else’s answer and say that my coworkers are one of my favorite parts of my job. They are kind, generous, and amazingly talented. The fact that I get to work with the English language every day and work on books about subjects I personally enjoy really tops it off for me.

Sarah (Distributor Sales Representative): Even though I'm one of the remote employees I really love working with the people at C&T. Everyone is so smart, creative, collaborative, and attentive, and each employee is so talented. When I do get to see folks during my office visits and at shows I couldn't ask for a nicer group to work with, and everyone makes it so easy for me to be a remote employee and still feel just like I am there in the office.

Jen (Account Manager): I hate to sound like everyone else here but my coworkers are THE BEST! They are creative and smart and supportive, and most of all they make me laugh every day! I also love our customers; both shop owners and customers are patient and kind no matter the questions they bring or dilemmas they have. They make working at C&T gratifying every day. Lastly, it is a pleasure to work around an ever-changing gallery of beautiful quilts and projects. It's so much fun to see what comes through our studio.
