Hi my friends! I’m delighted to share with you my Teach to Make my First Quilt book, now published with C&T publishing. In case we have not run into each other yet in the quilting world, I live in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington DC with my husband Gregg. We have been here about 30 yrs now, which seems like a lifetime! I have quilted for about 30 years, although I did make my first quilt back in 1978 when I needed a bedspread, I’ve come a long way since then!

Writing this book let me bring 25 years of teaching experience into one spot. I want everyone to be successful as quickly as possible. So my book is very focused to give the details you need without spending a ton of time. You will learn quilting jargon, why 1/4 seam allowance is necessary, several base techniques used in most quilts you will make, and … drum roll.. You will finish a quilt! If you want to learn to quilt, or you have made a few but are missing some necessary information, my book will walk you through making your first quilt!

My book has 9 patterns and 140 photos showing you step by step how to cut, sew, and how to assemble each of the block photos. If you are using this in a class, you are taking home all those great instructions to look at when you are sitting at your machine to sew.

All through my book are tip boxes that are little things I’ve learned over the years. Think of it as having your best friend give you the inside scoop on how to do those things books don’t usually cover.

When you start out making the 4-patch table runner, you will do all the steps. It feels so great to finish a project and be able to use it.

The rail fence is a classic. Using just strips sewn into sets, you will successfully create your first quilt to snuggle under!

I am a strong believer in trying all the basic techniques, and appliqué is one of them. My hip to be Square is a fun freeform appliqué runner. With my soft fusible appliqué, it’s sure to be one of your favorite techniques. If you are just learning to quilt, teaching someone, or need to fill in some gaps about quilt making, my book is for you. Thank you for joining me today to look at my book!
