Hand Embroidery Basics and Beyond!

Hand Embroidery Basics and Beyond!

Posted by Christen Brown on Sep 28th 2023

Calling all embroidery enthusiasts and lovers of slow stitching! I am so excited to announce my new class for Creative Spark, Hand Embroidery Basics and Beyond. Whether you are a beginner or more experienced stitcher, there is something of value for everyone in this course.

The course begins with an overview of the materials, tools, and techniques that you’ll need to know to get started. Then, you will learn how to expertly work with perle cotton, stranded floss, silk embroidery ribbons, and seed beads. I cover thread lengths, what needle to use where, and which knots to use when.

There are 22 design exercises that show you how to creatively incorporate stencils and other stitching aids into your embroidered creations. There are detailed demonstrations for 21 embroidery stitches, and yes both left-hand and right-hand instructions are included!

I show stitchers how to explore techniques for altering a stitch, conserving threads, and provide helpful tips, learned through my 60 years of embroidering, and 30+ years of teaching this beautiful craft. Aiming to inspire, I will show you a variety of my embroidery samplers, journals, and other ways to document your stitches and projects.

Included in the course is a downloadable handout, with instructions to create a sampler roll from your stitched squares. Also included are step-by-step details to create the Crazy-Quilt block shown. In addition, this course includes the Embroidery Stitching Handy Pocket Guide eBook. I also recommend that you have a set of my Embroidery Stencils, the Essential Collection.

I hope that this inspires you to take my class Hand Embroidery Basics and Beyond and join the “slow stitching” movement!

Happy Stitching to you! ~Christen
