Garment Maker's Project Planner Virtual Book Tour

Garment Maker's Project Planner Virtual Book Tour

Feb 5th 2024

We’re thrilled to announce that Gailen Runge's Virtual Book Tour starts tomorrow!

"I love to make my own clothes, and I love to organize things. Putting together C&T Publishing's Garment Maker's Project Planner was the perfect fit!

A planner is a great tool, and I looked forward to using it to plot my "must sew" and "can't wait to get started" for the year. And I certainly used it for that (including documenting my fabric plans for my seasonal capsule wardrobe!). But it turns out that I needed this planner longer after completing the projects. Sometimes, I will make a successful pattern many times, often more than a year apart. (Spark Tights and Schoolhouse Tunic, I'm looking at you!) I always assume I will remember what I did on a particular garment forever. And I don't. This can't just be me... right? Sometimes, I don't even remember exactly which pattern it was.

It's not just about my well-thought-out plans ahead of time, like pattern alterations before cutting. It's all of those little tweaks I made during sewing (adding inseam pockets from a different pattern because those instructions made more sense, shortening the jacket 5" during hemming...).

I also find including a snapshot of the finished garment tremendously helpful. I have a type of garment I like to wear (tunics, ankle-length trousers, t-shirts, leggings), and once some time passes, I get confused about things like which t-shirt is which pattern. (Did my daughter like the Arden Pants, or was it the Calyer Pants?)

And I also need help finding the patterns once I know which one it is. I have a folder on my computer of e-patterns, plastic bins of purchased patterns, books that include patterns on my bookshelf, and binders of patterns from magazines. Pattern pieces ready to cut out again are stored in tubes. I may or may not have made a muslin the first time, stored in another bin. If the details of what type of pattern it is and if I made a muslin are on the project pages, it saves me a ton of time digging around my bins and boxes.

I hope you find the Garment Maker's Project Planner as helpful as I do!"
