Design Hack: Style Meets Multiple Functions with Hemma Design

Design Hack: Style Meets Multiple Functions with Hemma Design

Posted by Kathy McGee on Sep 8th 2015

Today for our National Sewing Month guest blogger, please welcome Kathy McGee, author of the The Happy Bicycle!

I was inspired to write  The Happy Bicycle: Make 15 Stylish Bike Accessories with Hemma Design because it combines two things that I’m passionate about: great accessories and bicycles. First and foremost, bags should be well-designed and functional, and that’s where I always start when designing. But since my wheels are always spinning (so to speak), I like to make my designs as versatile as possible. One of my favorite projects from The Happy Bicycle is the Jordis Crossbar Clutch. It’s an easy 3-4 hour project that offers up at least five (at last count) fashionable uses. It’s a cross-body bag, a handbag, a clutch, a tablet case, and if you have a bicycle you can even use it as a crossbar bag.

I’m sure you’ll come up with even more uses and ways to wear the Jordis Crossbar Clutch. Check out all of the bag and basket ideas in The Happy Bicycle. There are great projects that include insulated picnic baskets, market totes, and quilted bags. And bikes are optional!

Happy sewing and/or cycling,
Kathy
