5 Reasons Why you should add Making Felt Flowers to your Summer Crafting List

With summertime upon us, you may be looking for new crafts and activities to enjoy! I love making felt flowers because you can get started with just a few simple and inexpensive supplies. If you’re an avid crafter, you probably already have most of these items on hand. Anything you don’t have is easy to find at your local craft store or online.

1. Inexpensive and Accessible Materials

Picking up a new hobby can sometimes be costly, and require tools that many people may not have access to. Not the case with making felt flowers! With just a few simple and inexpensive materials and tools, you can be making bountiful blooms in no time. Felt - There are more varieties of felt than you may realize! I recommend using a Wool- blend felt for making flowers. Your local craft store may not carry this type of felt, but it is easily found in online marketplaces. Hot Glue Gun and glue sticks – I recommend using a mini low-temperature glue gun. Scissors - A sharp pair of fabric scissors is a must. I like fabric scissors with a razor edge Floral wire – to add a stem to felt flowers, use cloth covered floral wire. 18 gauge is my favorite because its pliable yet still strong enough to support heavier flowers.

2. Fun for Beginners and Seasoned Crafters

Looking for an activity to enjoy with the kids this summer? Making felt flowers can be enjoyed by all skill levels (make sure your little one knows glue gun and scissor safety!) Making felt flowers really comes down to cutting shapes and gluing them together. Follow a pattern or let your creativity flow.

3. Enjoy Solo or With Friends

Want to get lost in your creativity in solitude? Go for it! Looking for a fun crafternoon activity to enjoy with friends? That’ll work too! To host an easy get together with friends

4. Bring the Outdoors In

Beat the heat! Along with beautiful flora, the summer also brings soaring temperatures. You can still enjoy natures beauty with felt flowers! Enjoy seasonal blooms from the comfort of your home when you make them yourself.

5. Get a Head Start on the Holidays

Use these longer days and more downtime to get a leg up on the busy holiday season. Felt flowers make wonderful gifts—handmade and from the heart! While you’re at it, make yourself some holiday decorations like wreaths and garlands.
