Class Description

  • Available for all skill levels - no quilting experience required.
  • Go home with a complete Quilted Desk Pad Approx. 16” x 32” see page 12.

Class Length

  • Six hours, including lunch.
  • Class members should print and cut out the Wash-Away Appliqué Sheets before going to the class - otherwise, the instructor will have to do this for them

Class Supplies

  • Required text: Sew Very Easy Quilt-As-You-Go Clamshells by Laura Coia
  • (1) package of Wash-Away Appliqué Sheets - 15 sheets
  • (1) package of 5” precut fabrics (Charm Pk.)- 43 pieces per pk 
  • Quilt batting (note: I recommend Hobbs Fusible Batting)
  • Backing fabric 19” x 42”
  • Pinking Shears or a larger pair of scissors
  • Bring a sewing machine with the ability to stitch a blanket stitch with matching thread. Bring a filled bobbin as well, with matching thread to the backing fabric.
  • A glue stick can be helpful.
  • Pins
  • Pressing sheet (optional)

Classroom Preparation

Students will begin stitching right away, so provide enough power cords for all the students to plug in their machines. One student per table. This workshop requires pressing. At least two ironing stations and optional Teflon Pressing Sheets. They will be pressing over top of batting and backing.

Class Outline

  • For every 5” square of fabric a preprinted appliqué piece is needed on page 22
  • You can have half the class prepare the backing and batting first and the second half start stitching the clam shells.
