Class Description:

Introduce students to a simple pattern modification and invisible zippers with a fun dress that can be made in quilting cotton, corduroy, home décor, or linen/cotton fabrics.

Class Length:

4-6 hours (may not finish everything in class).

  • Modern Style for Girls by Mary Abreu (page 17)
  • 2 ½ yards for dress (yardage will vary based on length chosen)
  • 1/3 yard for collar
  • 1/3 yard midweight interfacing for collar
  • 14˝ invisible zipper
  • Pattern tracing medium
  • Chalk/marking pen
  • Ruler
  • Measuring tape
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread

Class Agenda:

1. Modify Bodice Front and Bodice Back to create dress pattern.

2. Trace Collar and Sleeve patterns.

3. Cut patterns from fabric and interfacing.

4. Sew, demonstrating easing sleeve and adding invisible zipper.

 

Lace-Trimmed Shorts

Class Description:

Shorts are versatile and fast–and a great introduction to trouser zippers. These sew up quickly and allow for fun personalization with fabric choices and trims.

Class Length:

4-6 hours (may not finish everything in class).

Class Supply List:

  • Modern Style for Girls by Mary Abreu (page 38)
  • 1 yard for shorts and pocket (1 ¼ yards for size 12)
  • ½ yard ¾˝-wide buttonhole elastic
  • 1 ¼ yards ½˝-wide crocheted lace
  • ¾˝ button for waistband
  • Two ½˝ buttons for buttonhole elastic
  • 7˝ zipper
  • Pattern tracing medium
  • Chalk/marking pen
  • Ruler
  • Measuring tape
  • Rotary cutter, ruler, and mat
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread

Class Agenda:

1. Trace pattern piece.

2. Cut pieces from fabric, using a rotary cutter for basic rectangles.

3. Sew, demonstrating attaching trims, patch pockets, and trouser zippers.
