Folded Log Cabin Quilts Class Plan

by Sarah Kaufman

Behold the Fold: Folded log cabin

Class Description

Skill level: confident beginner to advanced.

This log cabin variation is all about cut-and folded fabric strips, sewn onto foundation, with the folds positioned to the center of the blocks. Four projects, Traditional block, Courthouse Steps, sampler quilt using both styles, and Sarah’s ‘Love Thy Neighbor’ block are all exciting options! And just for fun: Project 5 – Little House Quilts is always a hit! After students learn the formula for preparing and sewing ‘logs’, they can achieve a small wall piece, table runner, pillow top – or lots of blocks! Suggest students bring pre-cut and ironed strips to class. There is always an ‘ah ha’ moment in this class! The joy of sitting down to sew – WITH NO FURTHER PRESSING, to create a Folded Log Cabin block – is magic!
