Nancy Elliott MacDonald

Nancy Elliott MacDonald

Nancy started quilting in 1988 at age 50, inspired by her "quilt-less" first grandson, but this certainly wasn't her first experience with sewing. She was only eight years old when she started sewing on her mother's old White sewing machine.

She grew up hearing, "We can make that," so that was what she learned to do. She made clothing, dolls, tailored woolen garments, wedding dresses, draperies, slipcovers, and upholstery, but that was only the beginning. For her sons she made ski pants and parkas, sleeping bags, backpacks, and even tents.

She began teaching quilting in 1995, specializing in curved-seam piecing by machine. She also creates commission and art quilts and has won many awards at local, national, and international quilt exhibitions. Her work has also been published in a number of quilting periodicals.

Active in her local quilt guild, she also mentors beginning quilt artists. Her favorite activity is simply making quilts and she looks forward to having more time to do so. She and her husband Mac share their home in Carmichael, California, with lots of quilts and lots and lots of fabric.
