The Pets of C&T Publishing

We all love our furry (or feathery, or scaly . . . ) companions, and the staff of C&T are no exception. Today we're sharing photos and stories of our favorite pets. I'm partial to my own seven-year-old mutt (scroll down to the end to see a photo!), but I must admit that my coworkers have some pretty adorable animals, too!

Liz: I'm a dog person . . . although I'm annoyed by dog hair all over the house. Our thirteen-pound adoptee sheds enough for a thirty-pound dog. Yuck!

Kelly: My cock-a-poo Kiki is always by my side; she used to come to work with me when I had my photo studio in Pleasant Hill.

Sue: Yes, I'm a cat person.

Lynn: I have two cats, Nala and Daisy, who have a frenemy relationship. Nala is one of the rare orange female cats (only two percent of orange cats are female).

Jen: We have a mixed-breed, German, short-haired kangaroo (ahem, pointer), Anna. She is, at eleven year old, still able to leap tall fences in a single bound.

Dawn: I grew up with cats, dogs, birds, a rat and several hamsters. My childhood best friend was a lab/shepherd mix named Daisy who sat patiently as I painted her toenails, applied sky-blue eyeshadow and blush on her, and lovingly stood guard at bedtime so the monsters under the bed wouldn't eat me while I slept. Animals help us get in touch with our humanity. Every child should have a Daisy to laugh with, play with, cry with, and learn from on how to love others unconditionally (okay, MAYBE she also liked the biscuits I stealthily slipped under the dinner table when Mom wasn't looking). Daisy crossed the Rainbow Bridge decades ago, but the impact she had on my life lives on. We now have two cats, and in our spare time as a family we do dog-walking and pet-sitting just to be surrounded by all those furry babies.

Todd: I'm a fan of dogs and cats. Love labs and beagles.

Angela: I'm a HUGE animal lover (not many I don't like).  I have two shepherds and two cats who share my space. Sometimes a little too much of my space, but I still love them all . . . I spend most of my free time and share my bed with Octavia. She is my Belgian Malinois shepherd daughter. <3 She and her brother, Augustus (a golden German) love going to Starbucks with me on the weekends. But please don't say that word out loud in my house, it will cause a ruckus!

Tristan: I have a mini farm (chickens, ducks, quail, rabbits, homing pigeons, etc.), and although I would say a dog is an ideal pet, as silly as it sounds, the most amazing pet I've ever enjoyed was a guinea pig named Lucy. She ran around loose inside and out and followed me wherever I went. A surprisingly big personality for such a little thing.

Linda: As far as pets go, I grew up with a menagerie of farm animals, but loved my horse most of all. Currently, I own a little terrier companion named Nettie. She may be part Yorkie or Westie, we don't know. I found her at the animal rescue shelter in Dillon, Montana.

Betsy: We're definitely a dog-friendly household, currently being run (with an iron paw) by Lily, our Brittany Spaniel.

Roxane: Yes! We have plenty. Currently living with my family are a geriatric tortoiseshell cat named Phoebe, two very young guinea pigs named Pippin and Ginny Pig (nod to Harry Potter), and a gorgeous corn snake named Maverick. We tend to inherit pets from teachers at school, though at present only Mav came to us via that route. Lots of people are not keen on snakes, but I should share that he is the easiest pet we've ever had!

Amy: I love dogs and have had one for most of the last twenty-five years. Right now I'm helping train my neighbor's dog. He is a Queensland Heeler and so much work!

April: We have two new kitties, Pumbaa and Silver!

Ruthmary: Definitely a cat lover, although I am pet-less right now.

Gailen: I LOVE pets! I've had many, many different pets. Right now we have the dog (Lucy), the hamster (Meatball), and the fish (Buchanan, Johnson, Bob, and Bob). We are in between frogs at the moment.

Amber: Yes, I am a pet person, but I only have a hamster named Ginger at the moment. I am looking to adopt a pound dog soon though!

Jennifer: I’m very much a pet person. I used to favor cats over dogs, but now it’s the other way around—all thanks to a basset hound name Fred. He had more personality than any animal I’ve met since, and I’m a convert!

Sarah: I love cats, but since our beloved Gingerbread passed we have not added a new kitty to our family. She was a cuddler and enchanted all who met her.

Deirdre: I grew up with cats and swore I would never be a dog person, but when my partner brought home a puppy from the shelter I completely fell in love. His name is Puck, and he has the most soulful eyes of any dog I've met. He always looks like he's deeply contemplating life!
