I love all of our books, but some really catch my attention because the topic is new. While working on Clay Succulent Garden, I was immediately taken by the amazing photographs we got to choose from for the front cover.

The photos are gorgeous and show the charming tiny succulents in fabulous detail. And tiny these are! For example the almost stately sized Tillandsia in the bottom left corner of the photo (below) is just 1 1/4" (3 cm) tall.

I couldn't resist these little succulents! While reviewing the early rounds of the book, I decided I needed to try my hand at a little project (in the name of research and technical review, of course!). I ran to my local chain craft store to pick up the supplies. I was delighted to find that the supply list was surprisingly short, and everything I needed was readily available.

Being new to both miniatures and working with clay, I was a little bit nervous. But the Sedium Pachuphyllum, the first succulent in the book, uses all of the basic techniques, so it was a great place for me (and any reader) to start! I quickly moved on to other succulent varieties and put together my own miniature potted garden.
