Hello there everyone! It’s Amanda Haas, aka Jedimanda, here once more to talk about my second cosplay book, Level Up! Creative Cosplay. This book is a sister companion to Creative Cosplay that was released in September 2020. I poured a lot of knowledge into that first one and I realized that I still had tips and tricks to tell everyone. This book is all about that next step you want start on once you’ve grasped the basics of cosplay. Let’s level up!
I get a lot of questions about how to start designing original cosplay and costumes. One of the first chapters in this book is all about how to start designing from scratch. I’ll take you through how to think like a designer, draft a design with a fashion croquis, then how to bring your design from the page to the dress form. It’s a skill that once you’ve mastered it, you can LITERALLY create anything.

Wanting to break away from sewing and try your hands at electronics and LED work in your cosplay? I have a chapter on that too! I’ll show you how to create a basic circuit and how to understand all the numbers, colors, wires, and solder. Hang tight, I promise you’ll get a grasp on a subject that has eluded a lot of crafters.

Round out the book with a massive chapter on makeup, both beauty and special effects! Take away knowledge of latex prosthetic creation, body paint, and even how to make your beauty makeup stay on during an entire convention day. It’s my favorite chapter and it’s filled with over 10 years of trial and error knowledge that I’m passing on to you.
