Hello, I'm Lindsay Conner, a sewing pattern designer and author of several titles with C&T Publishing (Modern Bee, On the Go Bags, The T-Shirt Quilt Book). I wanted to stop by the C&T blog today to share some news about the recent book I compiled: kraft-tex Creations— Sew 18 Projects with Vegan Leather!

If you've never worked with kraft-tex, it's a paper-fabric hybrid that has many irresistible qualities. First, you can print designs and text on it (with paint or a computer printer). This alone leads to so many creative possibilities. But you can also stitch through it like fabric, adding embroidery or a quilted pattern. Some designers carve their own stamps and try block printing on kraft-tex. Others use it as an animal-friendly leather alternative to accessories bags, keychains, laptop cases, etc.
I designed two projects for the book. One is a simple clutch that uses a technique called Japanese stab binding (commonly used in bookbinding and handmade journals). My son always likes to help me with crafting and photo shoots!
The other is a mini journal necklace. I had so much fun learning about jewelry making, shopping for hardware, choosing embroidery floss colors to complement the kraft-tex. Making these tiny books is relaxing, rewarding, and it's a hand sewing craft can be done anywhere!
In fact, I made them for some of my best friends and surprised them with the necklaces at our summer reunion (back in 2018, when I was in the middle of designing projects for the book), and here we are wearing them together!
