For this heirloom-quality quilt, the vines and branches were inspired by wrought ironwork, and the bordering swags were imagined from festoons of fruit, as seen in Roman Empire temples. You can make the quilt as shown, or mix and match the elements to create your own design. Kathy gives you plenty of preparation guidelines to ensure success, whether you use her needle-turn method or choose a different appliqué technique.

If you saw the cover of Quilter's Newsletter, April/May 2012, or the winner of the IQA Founders Award in Houston in 2011, then you will know what I am talking about. This quilt, designed by Kathy K. Wylie of Whitby, Ontario can now be yours - with a bit of work of course. Kathy has put together this book of her quilt design which was released in December 2012 and includes full-size pattern pieces. If you go to Kathy's website, www.kathykwylie.com, you will also see some smaller projects she has made using design portions of the original quilt. I just took a class with Kathy based on her first book Sewflakes. If you get a chance to take a course with her she is a wonderful instructor and shared lots of tips and tricks - just like her books!
