Spring is here…which means summer is just around the corner! This fun new project book will get you in the mood for the sunnier days ahead (and seriously make you long for a day at the beach). Seaside Home includes 25 sewing projects—quilts, pillows, stuffies, garlands and wreathes, bags, and other accessories that are somewhat nautical in nature. Projects are scrap and fat-quarter friendly, suitable for beginning to advanced sewists, and can be individualized with extra embellishments, beading, and embroidery.

This book is just plain fun!  Susanna Woods had gathered together a variety of quilting, sewing, and embroidery enthusiasts from across the web, given them a central theme (the sea) and watched them go to work.  There are quilts, stuffed toys and pillows, bags, table services, wreaths, wall hangings, etc.  The projects are sewn, quilted, embroidered, and easily crafted.  The sheer amount of projects and talent displayed is nearly overwhelming.     Ms. Woods doesn't spend time on basic techniques, she leaves that up to the designers to showcase the basics of how their projects are created, step by step.  The detail that each designer uses to showcase how their projects evolve is easy to understand and includes a variety of photo's and diagrams.  Also, the designs are shown in specific home settings to give the reader an idea of how to use the designs around their home.     As an added bonus, a photo and short bio of each designer is included as well as the locations of their website's, blog's, and Etsy shops.  This is invaluable information for the reader because I know that I wanted to see more of the work by specific designers and it was easy to type in their web address and head over to their site.  I found out that one of the designer's that I follow regularly was included in the book.  So that was a nice surprise.     Seaside Home features projects with easy to follow directions, decorating idea's, and a chance to connect with the actual designers via the web.  This book has it all.

This review is from: Seaside Home: 25 Stitched Projects from Sea Creatures to Sailboats (Design Collective) (Paperback)I'm an interior designer turned quilter living on the Gulf Coast of Florida. The instant I saw the first project in the book, Beach Hut Pillow, I was hooked! I could instantly see this pillow nestled on a sofa in a beachside home or condominium! The little beach hut applique can be offset to the other siide of a second pillow to create a mirror image for either side of a sofa! How cute. There are 24 other really cute and easy projects in the book as well! I love the Deep Waters Quilt and the Buccaneer T-shirt! Our community sponsors a Pirate festival each June and I can visualize using the Pirate ship applique in a quilt! Love it!Review for Seaside Home.

If you own a beach house, have decorated parts of your home in a coastal theme or simply love the beach, this book will be a real treasure. There are a generous 25 projects between the covers, all made with a "seaside" theme. They include cushions, quilts, softies, a bag and a hat, made with a variety of techniques: applique, hand and machine embroidery, garment sewing and quilting among them. Twenty-two different designers have contributed projects, which has resulted in a spectrum of styles, colours and materials. We'll admit that our favourites were the seahorse, rainbow fish and hermit crab softies, and the roomy beach bag that has zippered pckets, draw string closure, adjustable shoulder strap and carry handle. The instructions seem quite detailed, but there aren't many diagrams so visual learners will need to concentrate. That said, most of the projects are relatively straighforward so we don't think you'll encounter too many difficulties.

Seaside Home is a compilation of quilts, softies, embroidery, appliqué and decorative crafts, perfect for a nautical look for any home. There are several great quilt designs including Deep water, pebble stack quilted wall hanging and my favourite Porthole Baby Quilt. The book also has a whale embroidered cushion, sailboat cushion, crab napkin wraps and some nautical bunting, a perfect summer project to make with children. There are lots of appliqué projects, quite a few seaside softies, all perfect smaller projects.  The book covers all abilities, beautifully laid out with full size patterns.  So no trips to enlarge patterns – perfect for a spur of the moment make!  So if you are looking for a book with a mixture of craft projects not just quilts this is a great place to start.
