"A colorful, whimsical guide to fusing art quilts. The author ... believes (fusing) is the most direct route from design idea to project completion. Seven projects (are) presented in such a way that even the newest quilter can be successful. (Laura says) there is no wrong way to free-cut fused fabrics, and encourages readers to develop their own style.
I recommend this book for those who are looking for something new to try and for those who are just getting their feet wet. The results are quite inspiring!"

"I credit fusible web with making me the rebel that I am today,” says author Laura Wasilowski... From her opening statements and throughout her book, Laura proves her point by showing photos of every shape imaginable. From realistic flowers to furniture and onto a detailed photo of an iron or very tiny bits of fabric, she shows how easy and quickly fusing creates appliqué in any style.
Readers will find “Fusing Fundamentals” invaluable in detailed instructions and photos that will produce the best results. I have not seen all the tips the author offers before. An example is how to cut fabric with decorative blades which can provide the easiest way I have ever seen to bind a quilt not only with fusible but also with no stitching. For folks like me, she promises that if her instructions are followed, one can earn a Certificate of Fusology from the Chicago School of Fusing.
Following the section, “Fusibles 101,” Laura offers seven complete projects with clear instructions and photos. No good book is complete with a chapter on finishing, right? Laura has named this chapter, (what else?) “Fused Finishing.” Wow, I can’t wait to try fusing a binding. Second to last, the book features another delectably titled chapter: “Wild, Wild Web: Other Options for Fusibles.” These ideas include attaching stones, paper, knits, findings, craft items such as beads and other notions. Have you ever considered fusing playing cards with fabric? Laura has.
To end this enjoyable book for quilters and appliquérs alike, “The Inspirational Gallery of Fused Art Quilts” cannot help but delight and amaze. Several of today’s most talented quilt designers such as Jane Sassaman, Caryl Bryer Fallert and Melody Johnson share their works of art and fused or not---they will leave you breathless wondering how they made their quilts look like paintings."
