"Jan Krentz is a highly experienced and award-winning teacher – and it shows. The first thing that captured our attention in this book was the stunning front cover: a very eye-catching choice indeed. The second thing was the length and quality of the technique instructions that Jan provides for making her quilts. There are 12 projects provided in this book, but the photos and instructions for them don’t begin until page 54 (in a 96 page book). The first section of the book provides really useful, well-explained notes, accompanied by lots of close-up photographs, on the steps involved in cutting and sewing diamond shapes. What we also liked was that Jan doesn’t presume that one style – her style – will suit everyone. Instead, she has provided several alternative methods for tackling some of the steps. As a reader, we were left with the strong impression that we were in the hands of a top-quality, patient tutor. Jan has established a reputation for working with diamonds, especially in eight-pointed star blocks, and she has authored a number of previous books on them. Many quiltmakers avoid diamonds because they typically require sewing inset seams and bias edges. To help, Jan has designed some specialist acrylic rulers especially for cutting diamonds with a rotary cutter. They are the “Fast2Cut” 45 degree diamond, half-diamond and quarter-diamond. However, it’s not essential to own these rulers to follow Jan’s instructions, as she has provided the full size shapes you need on a pull-out pattern sheet at the back of the book. What’s more, this book has been written with relatively inexperienced quiltmakers in mind: not only are we given detailed technique instructions up front, but the 12 projects by and large feature larger shapes with some easy piecing options and fresh fabric combinations. There’s also a gallery of more than 30 quilts featuring diamonds that will inspire: they showcase a wide range of colour and fabric choices, which is a bonus for those of us who struggle to imagine what a quilt might look like in fabrics different from the author’s choices. Most of the projects included in the book are wallhangings and table runners, rather than full size bed quilts. However, there’s no reason why you couldn’t just make additional blocks to increase their size if you wished. A very worthwhile addition to the library of any quiltmaker."

"Jan Krentz has released a companion book to her popular book "Quick Star Quilts and Beyond", with her recent book "Quick Diamond Quilts and Beyond",  published by C&T Publishing.  This new release continues to provide new insights and inspirations for making spectacular diamond quilts.   While these quilts look challenging, Jan shares insights in this book to make these projects Beginner friendly! There are 12 new diamond quilt patterns in this book, all without inset seams. Each pattern has well written instructions and excellent visuals.  Insights are provided to help with fabric selection, with tips on color value, texture, and contrast. Also, included  is an excellent "Diamond" Gallery that shows pictures of  30+ inspiring quilts.  I'm confident that many future award winning quilts will be created from quilters that use techniques provided by Jan, and inspirations from this gallery.  Wonderful quilts!  Wonderful book! This book is available via the online store for C&T Publishing. To help with creating these beautiful diamond quilts, Jan has designed a set of acrylic rulers especially for cutting diamonds with a rotary cutter. They are the “Fast2Cut” 45 degree diamond, half-diamond and quarter-diamond. SewCalGal has not had an opportunity to use these rulers, but expects them to be high quality rulers that are helpful when making designs from this book. I'm also looking forward to checking out Jan's book "Quick Star Quilts and Beyond", which has 20 projects. And her "Hunter Star Quilts & Beyond", has six different ways to make a Hunter Star.  Hymm....I actually think I'd love to have all of Jan's books in my quilt library!"
