"...This book is Wonderful!! It needs to be in every quilter’s library. I have already bought Vol II, Sophomore year, which will be released in June 2010. It is a book for every beginner and a refresher for the advanced quilter. Would make a wonderful gift for the quilter in your life. L~ Quilter’s Academy Vol 1 – S. Johnson – SD USA Harriet Hargrave always puts out a great product. This book contains so many tips and tricks for all levels of quilters. I highly recommend it. I can hardly wait for the next in the series!! Perfectionist Quilting – Elizabeth J. Lawson – Australia This is an amazingly thorough introduction to quilting and full of tips for quilters of all levels. I have been quilting for fifteen years and learnt that I have many bad habits and there are lots of ways I could do things better and more easily. The sample quilts, based on only squared and rectangles, are great. However it definitely tends toward the perfectionist end of the scale, so may not suit everyone. : This must-have course guides you step by step through the basics of quiltmaking, from setting up your sewing space to binding and finishing your first quilt. "I just started working through the first volume and have to say THANK YOU Mrs.Hargrave!!! For the stay at home moms who don't have quilter's in the family nor time to take a class, this has been a life saver for me!!! I wanted to start quilting after my second pregnancy and thougth how hard could it be, but now I'm looking for more accuracy and trying more complex patchwork. I can't wait to go through all the volumes!!"

"This new book by Ms Hargrave is a no-nonsense, tell-me-everything-I-need-to-know text for both the novice quilter and experienced quilters wanting to improve their craftsmanship.  The book takes students through a series of projects design to teach them many of the skills involved in traditional quiltmaking.  However, the information in the book is equally applicable to art quilters who wish to improve their cutting and stitching technique.  The book covers a variety of topics not usually covered in beginning quilting texts (or even some of their encyclopedic cousins), including setting up the work area for comfort, correct cutting techniques, information about cotton fabrics,  and information about the tools needed and how to care for them.   Each topic is accompanied by excellent close-up photographs, which enable readers  who do not have ready access to a beginning quilting class to use the book as a beginning quilting course.  The book can also serve as a “refresher” and source of additional information for students enrolled in a beginning sewing class.  More experienced quilters will find the book a great “go-to” reference source, although an alphabetical index of topics would have been helpful.  (The topics are arranged by lessons within each class.) The included projects are suitable for the level intended, and students should not be influenced by the “reproduction” fabrics used in many of the samples----they can be made in a variety of more contemporary fabrics. I recommend this book as a fantastic addition to the libraries of novice and experienced quilters alike."

“This first volume in a planned series of six books from veteran quilt educator Harriet Hargrave and her daughter Carrie covers the basics of quiltmaking in nine classes, each of which includes four to seven lessons. The book does not focus on projects - though there are plenty of those. It focuses on the why's and how's of the quiltmaking process. It's a first-rate book for quilters of all skill levels.”
