"I bought this book at Calgary's 'My Sewing Room' and have been pouring over it ever since. It has such interesting and different techniques in it that are explained so well. It really provides some new dimensions for color options and the inclusion of other other art forms that I truly think it is one of the most creative quilting books I have seen in years!"

Review By: Judith Heyward,   Carolina Musings - July 26, 2008
"I've made several projects using various weaving techniques--split oak baskets, placemats, clay vessels--and even some quilting projects. So, when I saw Simply Stunning Woven Quilts by Anna Faustino, I bought the book to see what she had to offer. Well, it's a book full of interesting methods of weaving. And her more complicated quilts are stunning.Since I have had to stop on my present quilting project due to the need to order thread for the quilting (which I did), I decided to try one of her more simple projects. This one uses two large log cabin blocks with fabrics that go from light to dark. My firstchoice of colors were black and purple. I made the blocks and decided that I didn't really like that combination. So, I decided to try red and was pleased with the result...When you're using log cabin blocks as your background, you have to be fairly precise in your placement of the pieces or you'll lose the effect...it was a lot of fun to do. As far as the directions in the book are concerned, they were pretty clear although I did change a couple of ways of doing things. I think this would make a good class to teach, but it requires a good bit of working room..."

Review   Going to Pieces - August 3, 2008
"If you haven't stumbled onto this book -- Simply Stunning Woven Quilts by Anna Faustino -- you'll want to take a look at it. I've been meaning to review it for a while now, because it's one of the most innovative books I've seen in a while.
Here's the thing that impresses me the most about this book: it takes a basic concept (weaving) and shows you how to do it in increasingly complex and amazing ways. And truly, Faustino's instructions lead you from the basic principles into more interesting and unusual and complicated ways to use weaving. The pieces that result are the sorts of ones that you'd stand in front of at a quilt show or art gallery, looking closely and thinking, 'How the heck did she DO that?'
And, even better (for those of us who like relatively instant gratification) it's fused. And while it is very much like the weaving we all did as elementary school kids with strips of construction paper, Faustino's spin on it is much more appealing. If you could do that construction paper thing, you can do this.
The photos and illustrations provide very clear examples on how to cut and assemble to get the eye-popping woven results. Faustino shows how to use the woven technique in both subtle and bold ways, for a very different background or a main feature in a piece. There are woven log cabin pieces that are gorgeous, and woven circles of graduated color that make my fingers itch to start cutting fabric.
As I read this (over and over -- and it amazes me every time) I'm impressed at how Faustino has come up with an easy technique for a complicated look, and then figured out all sorts of different ways to use it, AND she's sharing it all here.
I'm very eager to try this out. There are innumerable possibilities for using this technique."

The book covers the basics of Anna's fabric weaving in three step-by-step lessons, then moves on to eight more techniques for weaving and combining fabrics. Review   The Professional Quilter - October 1, 2008
“Weaving fabric isn't new, but what Anna Faustino does with the concept will have you cheering. We're all familiar with taking straight strips and weaving them. But have you ever tried weaving with curvy strips or weaving strips into an existing log cabin block or weaving fabric wedges into a circle. Wow! The results are exciting. Once Anna has created this new base fabric, which she fuses, she will often use it as a background for appliqué. She covers the basics of three types of weaving with easy-to-follow, step-by-step lessons and follows each up with a project to reinforce the technique. The book includes full-size patterns for the circle weaving technique and cutting diagrams for 26 different quilts. The book is inspirational and no longer will you see her fabulous quilts and wonder, “How did she do that?”

Review   Maria's Quilt Scraps - March 3, 2009
"Do you remember cutting and weaving strips of coloured construction paper together to make designs or little baskets and such when you were in elementary school? Anna has very cleverly and imaginatively taken that idea and transferred it to fabric. She uses her method in two ways - to create complete or partial backgrounds and to create wonderful geometric designs. Her quilts are absolutely stunning! Be sure to visit her website to see her work.
Anna’s book includes step by step directions accompanied by colour photos and illustrations. With her woven backgrounds, there is no worrying about matching seams, corners or points. There are photos and cutting diagrams for making 26 quilts and an attached, full-sized, pattern page. You can make some or all of them and then go on to make your own creations. Anna’s book will create a whole new world of quilting for you!
This book was a finalist in the National Best Books 2008 Awards Crafts/Hobbies/How-To category!"
