Review   New Zealand Quilter - October 1, 2007
"The basic premise of Kathy Sandbach's new book is to plan your quilting as you design your quilt top. Often treated as something of an afterthought, making the quilting design an integral part of the quilt is simple -- and very effective. Designating large spaces for detailed quilting and choosing fabrics that "read" as solids to make the most of the dimensional effect of quilting are important in this process. There are 6 quilt projects and 30+ quilting designs in a sketched style. A machine quilting teacher for more than 20 years, this is Kathy Sandbach's third book on the subject."

Review   Machine Quilting Unlimited - December 1, 2007
"In her latest book, veteran machine quilting teacher Kathy Sandbach shows the importance of planning your quilting from the very beginning of your project rather than making the quilting an afterthought. Using six different projects to illustrate her techniques, Kathy guides the reader through the process of piecing the top, designing the quilting patterns, and stitching the designs out. Patterns for both the tops and the quilting designs are included, making this a very useful book for the beginning machine quilter. Touching briefly on thread choice, proper pressing for more successful quilting, moving the quilt sandwich through the machine, and using special effects, Kathy gives all of the basics a quick once-over, making sure that you will have a good idea of what you're doing before you start doing it."

“Quilting is integral to the quilt, yet it is often an afterthought. Kathy Sandbach shows you how to leave open spaces in the patchwork for showcasing quilting. Her insight on fabrics, thread colors, and even pressing will have you looking at quilts in a new light. Eye-catching projects with clear, detailed instructions and diagrams guide you through the process. The quilts in the photo gallery feature many of the more than 30 quilting motifs included in the book.”
