What a gift this book is to all of us who love landscape quilts! The first time I saw one of Gloria's landscapes, I knew I wanted to learn everything I could from this gifted artist... but I was intimidated. After all, her work is among the best the quilt world has to offer. Then I took her class and found her to be as good a teacher as she is an artist.

Review   New Zealand Quilter - April 1, 2007
"Gloria Loughman is well known to many New Zealand quilters -- having taught throughout the country in recent years. Her first book, Luminous Landscapes, was much anticipated and her many fans were not disappointed. Gloria details the process she teaches for creating landscape quilts -- starting with a photograph, painting the background, before layering the landscape and achieving realistic dimensional effects with judicious stitching. Basic colour theory underpins much of the success of these quilts and step-by-step instruction will have most quilters producing a quilt they are thrilled with."

Review By: Violette Severin,    - July 25, 2008
"Gloria Loughman wrote this fabulous book on creating landscape quilts. It is chock full of eye candy. There are gorgeous photos of her native Australia as well as of many of her award winning quilts. I especially loved the photos of the trees and fauna that are native to Australia. They are vastly different from what we see in the U.S. It makes me want to travel there and see them for myself...The book is just under 100 pges and is divided into several sections on color theory, photograph/design selection, painting fabrics, stitching techniques, construction techniques, and a few elements such as trees.
Anyone interested in advanced landscapes will benefit from the book. If your a fan of Gloria's as I am, you will love it too."

Review   Serendipity and the art of Quilts - February 26, 2010
"Now I am familiar with the expression “You can’t see the woods for the trees”? and readily acknowledge the value of stepping back and looking at the big picture. (I’m a detail person but I’m also a pragmatist.) Nevertheless, there are also times that it is useful to closely study the trees in their form, shape, colour and texture. Indeed, Gloria Loughman dedicates an entire section in her wonderful book Luminous Landscapes to composing textile works with trees. In her tips for drawing trees, Gloria highlights how the outline and density of the canopy are of critical importance. She then goes on to explain several fusing, painting and machine embroidery techniques to capture trees in all their wonderful detail..."
