Review Quilter's Home - March 1, 2007
What I love: The dog projects are so easy, totally cute, and have instructions so super simple that I want to make all of them. I'm sure that anyone with even a little imagination could even create a miniature of their own beloved mutt. For the truly creative spirit, I suggest using brightly colored dyed wool for the dogs. Or adapt the instructions to make a cute version of your cat!
I haven't been this turned on by a how-to book in a long time. If you're crafty, you NEED to have it."
Review Knit 'N Style - June 1, 2007
"You need needles for the projects in this book, but put away your knitting needles because these designs call for felting needles -- the kind with the incredibly sharp point and barbs on the sides. If you enjoy every aspect of having wool in hand, this is another way to enjoy it. The projects are an amazing array of 20 miniature (palm size) dogs designed by a Japanese artist... Each one is a breed-specific portrait, a tiny dog show that will sit, stay, and not make any noise or a mess! The first part of the book explains the basics of how to do dimensional needle felting and color blending. The middle portion shows how to construct a dog, while the last section goes into the breed-specific instructions. Needle felting is very easy, but only a true artist who is able to teach would be able to create dogs and a book like this one. It's a treat."
Review Kookkae Blog - June 17, 2008
“Hooray for Siberian Huskies. When I found out this book had a Siberian Husky in it I had to buy it - I waited for it to come out in English and then I got it as soon as I could. The dogs are all quite lovely and it makes it fun to flick through the book and see the artists creativity in making these lovely dogs. Only issue I have is that the directions are given for making a Labrador and then you need to go to the area for the dog you are making for any specifics...The book does give you directions on incorporating your own dogs hair into the felt sculptures. I intend to make 2 Siberians - one of my lovely silver Belle and one of my lovely red Damon. I have been collecting fur off of Belle and I am nearly ready to start. We'll see how I go!”
“Great Book- even for beginners. I am a beginner in the world of fiber sculpting but I found the instructions in this book so well written and the pictures so clear that I was able to create a needle felted Scottish Terrier very easily. I wasn't able to find the materials locally but that didn't stop me. Just a quick trip around the Internet and I had everything I needed. I am so proud of my dog and I can't wait to make more.”
“Fantastic! I thought this was a great book! I have never done felting before and I found the instructions easy. I'm a beginner but my pups are turning out pretty well, with some practice they will be great. Great thing to try out!”
“Not Difficult!! I hadn't done ANY needle felting when I accidentally happened upon this wonderful little book. In addition, the first printing of this book was completely in Japanese! In spite of that, I was able to look at the pictures and diagrams and create my first needle felted pup! I love dogs and that's what drew me to it… The negative review about the book is misleading. If you have any kind of craft or art ability, you can do this! As far as finding supplies, if you have access to a computer and the Internet, you can find everything you need.”
“This book is really cute and the pictures are great. Very
Inspirational. The dog building is not for beginning needle felters. The legs can be tricky. But anyone with a bit of experience will be able to do this quickly. There are so many super cute dogs and I am sure I will be making pups from this book for quite some time.”
