Kelly McCants

Kelly McCants, a.k.a. Modern June, the Oilcloth Addict, learned to sew at age thirteen and has spent a lifetime stitching and drafting patterns. In college, she studied costume design and worked in film and theater costume shops all over the United States until she became a mother of two.

The McCants family lives in an 87-year-old house in a charming neighborhood in Richmond, Virginia. During their early years of parenthood, Kelly and her husband, Don, spent a lot of time restoring the house. In 2006, Kelly began homeschooling her children and started her company, Modern June, as a creative outlet. Her hand-sewn housewares business grew as quickly as the kids, with everything happening in her home until early 2013, when Modern June moved to a nearby studio space. She maintains a home studio and says it’s a creative place of peace - if you don’t mind the teenagers!

Kelly wrote Sewing with Oilcloth in 2011 and actively writes two blogs, Modern June (modernjune.blogspot.com) and Oilcloth Addict (oilclothaddict.blogspot.com). Kelly sells fabric, notions, and her own line of hand-sewn housewares on etsy.com and at modernjune.com. The projects in this book grew out of Kelly’s whole-house makeover - her second one in fourteen years. She's proud to share it all with you.
