Biography:
Carol Doak's passion for quiltmaking began in 1979, when she enrolled in a basic quilting class in Worthington, Ohio. She taught that class the following year and continues to share her passion with quilters worldwide through her sizable collection of best-selling books and popular classes. Her teaching style has been described as light-hearted and fun, and her goal is to inspire students in a positive way.
In 1994, her first paper-piecing book, Easy Machine Paper Piecing, popularized her trademark technique worldwide. Carol's impressive quilts have been featured on the covers of most national quilting magazines. Carol's book, Carol Doak's Simply Sensational 9-Patch Stars, offered quilters the opportunity to make over 2,500 paper-pieced nine-patch star block combinations.
In April 1999, Carol won the 8th Honors Award from the East Coast Quilters Alliance in recognition of her outstanding influence in the field of quilting. In September 1999, Easy Machine Paper Piecing was named by Quilter's Newsletter Magazine as one of the 30 most influential books in the previous 30 years. Carol has been named one of the top ten quilt teachers and designers in the United States, and in 2004 she was nominated as one of 24 All-American Quilters. In 2005, she was nominated as Professional Quilter of the Year. Carol resides in Windham, New Hampshire, with her husband.
