Meet Ms. Figgy, Your New Favorite Teacher

Posted by

I've never taken a class with  Shelly Figueroa, author of Ms. Figgy's Garment School for Girls, and neither has anyone I know, but I can tell she's a wonderful teacher. She's patient, she explains concepts thoroughly and well, she chooses projects girls really want to make, and best of all, she loves teaching. Just listen to what she says in her acknowledgments: "To my amazing students at Figgy’s Sewing Studio: Each day you walk into my classroom and renew my passion for sewing, bring a smile to my face, and keep me young. I love to watch your faces light up with each stitch and see how proud you are when you’ve completed a project." Doesn't she sound like the teacher you (and your daughter/niece/granddaughter) have always wanted?

Although we may not all be lucky enough to live in Oregon and take advantage of her in-person classes, her book is the next best thing. It has all the cute clothes, clear directions, and easy to understand yet not condescending tone that teens and tweens and their parents could wish for.

So if a young one in your life has expressed interest in sewing her own clothes, or if you're hoping to get her interested, this is the book for you. You can pre-order your copy  here.

Who in your life could use this book?
