Some of My Favorite Things: Quilted Celebrations

Posted by Amanda Murphy on Nov 10th 2015

Hi there! My name is  Amanda Murphy and I’m the author of the Free-Motion Quilting Idea BookModern Holiday, and Color Essentials. C&T invited me here today to introduce my latest book: Quilted Celebrations!

Quilted Celebrations follows Modern Holiday in that is a project-oriented book that walks the line between modern and traditional style, but it isn’t limited to the holidays. In fact, it really isn’t a holiday book at all. Quilted Celebrations centers on projects that celebrates life’s special events and milestones: there are quilts for births, birthdays, graduations, bar mitzvahs, confirmations, weddings, anniversaries, and more. Those are the events that inspire many of us to make quilts to gift.

So that is my first favorite thing about Quilted Celebrations: it is chock-full of patterns for milestones in life that are quilt-worthy!

The second thing I love about this book is that each project has both a front AND a back quilt design for each project that coordinate. So you can make the front, the back, or be the overachiever and make both! (Quilters are notorious for biting off more than we can chew–so of course piecing two quilts sounds better than one!)

The third thing that I love about Quilted Celebrations is that there are options in each design to personalize your quilt. I designed them in a pretty understated way and incorporated different techniques such as appliqué, fabric pens, and transfer paper. So you can make each project as unique as its recipient.

There is a quilt that commemorates a life in the book as well. The back of this one is made from strips on which a person or multiple people can record memories of their loved one to make the finished piece truly unique.

So those are my favorite things about Quilted Celebrations! I hope that you will share your creations on Instagram using the #QuiltedCelebrations. (You can find me over there @amandamurphydesign and C&T @ctpublishing.)

Before I go I thought I’d also let you know I’ve a coloring book called Modern Elegance based off of my fabric designs–now shipping with C&T. I hope you all love it!

Happy quilting, sewing, coloring, and crafting!

Amanda
