We are so excited to kick off the
Dresden Carnival blog tour! Our book is all about celebrating and reinventing the beloved classic Dresden Plate block. We have created each design as a reflection of a summertime memory, and each project contains unique, modern designs that range from beginner-friendly to more advanced.
We want to share with you each of our favorite summer memories and the quilt we designed from that inspiration:
Yvette Jones: I grew up in St. George, Utah, where we had this fantastic old-timey soda and candy shoppe called Judd’s, and all the kids would go get candy for a nickel or an old-fashioned ice cream malt or Italian ice soda. I remember walking down there with my best friend and sitting on their tall spinning bar stools while we sipped an Italian ice soda to get away from the 110 degree heat. Our quilt
Italian Ice was inspired by this story and the look and feel of the old Judd’s soda shoppe.
Marian Gallian: One of my favorite vacation spots is Waikiki in Hawaii. We visited there a few different summers and fell in love with sunshine, beaches, and tropical flora.
Heat Wave was inspired by the bright, tropical flowers and colorful beach umbrellas dotting the sandy beaches. We wanted to capture the vibrance and laid-back attitude of the island and love the happiness and energy this quilt brings when you look at it!
From carnivals, ferris wheels, and cotton candy to garden parties, lemonade, and lily pads, we hope you will take this trip with us down memory lane and make your own summertime-inspired Dresden quilt to treasure.
